Chapter One - Reader's Response

After your read, please answer the following questions.

1. What is something new you learned that helped or you think will help you with Word Study in your classroom?

2.  In chapter one the authors state that, "whether you are a long standing companion on this adventure or joining us for the first time, we welcome you on this continuing journey to learn and teach about words their way." 1. Generally speaking, our studetns have a poor phonetic background and some are getting WTW for the first time this year. In my opionion grades 3 and 4 was a tough place to start. I just think this would have been much more beneficial if only the lower grades implemented it for the first couple of years and then the higher grades could have taken over. Also, if done properly, I could have 4 different groups in my class and that is too much to manage with everything else that goes on. Some kids test into derivational and neer belong there. This is all still a very tough sell for me and i dont see its place in grade 4

  2. Word study is fun for our second grade students at ps3. We have some problems with our vowel sounds. Patterns are explored. Differences and similarities are noted. Vocabulary and grammar ass an add on would be helpful.
